Let me know if you’ve said any of the following before:
- I just can’t stop eating…..(insert food of emotion here)
- I need sugar in the afternoon to stay awake.
- I crave (sugar, chocolate, wine, cheese puffs….)
- I gotta have my carbs
- I haven’t done anything and I’ve gained 10 lbs
- It’s no use, I am too old to start
- I’ve tried EVERYTHING and nothing works
- I’ve tried EVERYTHING and it stopped working after 3 months
- No matter what I do, I can’t lose my stomach
I could go on, but if you’re like most people, then you’ve probably said one or more of the preceding at some point in your life unless you’ve always eaten and exercised in a healthy way.
I am not going to lie and say that change is an easy thing. If it were, we wouldn’t need so many motorized scooters to get us around. Fear is such awful place to live. It keeps the negative habit loop alive and well inside our heads. It takes courage to step up and say “That is it, I’m done living this way”. Once the decision to change is made, it seems like the steps just line up in front of you. You just have to take the first step and when you’re ready, the next one appear.
Our brains are a miraculous place. I’ve learned that habits are just your brains way of predicting the next moment. Think about someone that likes to finish your sentences for you. Well, that is your brain. It just predicts what you’re needs/wants are and creates the desire for it. We have to send the brain some new predictions. We have to change the way our body feels and reacts to break the loop of predictions.
The way we fuel our body will give your brain what it needs to make new predictions. Do you know what nutrition your cells are absorbing from the food you eat? Think about it. What you eat determines what you are telling your brain to predict. Let’s go a step further. How much of the nutrients that you are eating is being absorbed by your body? If you are taking vitamin and mineral supplements, how much are your cells actually using? Unless you’ve had your blood work tested and your hair analyzed, you don’t know. You’re just paying for supplements and “hoping” they are doing the job. But remember, folks, supplements are to support the food you are eating, not replace the food you aren’t eating.
When your body is absorbing the nutrients it needs, your brain will continue to tell you what it wants. Take the first step and find out what you are not absorbing from the food you eat. You might be amazed at what you’re not getting. Get off the eating trainwreck and feed your body the nutrition it desires so that you won’t have cravings for things you don’t want or need.
