On this day in 1700, English pranksters begin popularizing the annual tradition of April Fools’ Day by playing practical jokes on each other. The origins are not quite clear, but,
“Some historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes. ”
Blood sugar is the at the root of many cravings. What is blood sugar?
“Blood sugar, or glucose, is the main sugar found in blood. The body gets glucose from the food we eat. This sugar is an important source of energy and provides nutrients to the body’s organs, muscles and nervous system. The absorption, storage and production of glucose is regulated constantly by complex processes involving the small intestine, liver and pancreas. ” These organs are triggered with enzymes and if those enzyme instructions are disrupted, then blood sugar gets messed up.
One of the easiest and least expensive ways to fool blood sugar is to add cinnamon to your day. Add a dash or two to your coffee, tea, oatmeal, smoothie, toast, protein shake or anything you wish. Cinnamon is a blood sugar stabilizer and it has a great flavor!
If you’re craving something salty, perhaps you are a bit dehydrated and your minerals are in need of balancing. Grab a handful of dry-roasted nuts and for added punch, fool your body with some herb and spice (cayanne or paprika) nuts. To fool your body keep hydrated with WATER!!! Do not add extra salt and enjoy the real flavor of your food. Flavor with herbs and spices.
Late night snacking. This usually occurs for 1 of 2 reasons: You’re up late from working or from partying. Either one of these will cause decisions to be made that may not be the best for your health. Adding protein throughout your day can help fool your body into better decision. Protein takes longer to break down in the body fooling the body into thinking it is fuller longer.
Having a bad day and feeling a surge of binge coming on. No problem, order from your favorite app and pick up. That’s all you get. No standing in line looking and smelling all the food. Want pizza, great order Blaze or Pie Five, want sushi-awesome. By ordering and picking up, you do no other shopping. You are limited in your purchase and get your desired craving. So choose wisely. This will take some time…
Several of these will require the 30 minute rule. Walk, talk, write, stair walk, listen to a podcast, meditate anything. Do anything for 30 minutes and see where your craving is.
